Carlos Alcaraz captured his eighth tournament title of 2025, defeating Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 at the Japan Open on Tuesday.
It was the 67th match win of the season for Alcaraz and came just nine days after Fritz beat the World No. 1 at the Laver Cup. The Tokyo victory gives the Spaniard 24 career titles at age 22.
Fritz, the second seed, required a medical timeout at the end of the first set for a thigh issue and he struggled to keep up with Alcaraz in the second set of the 93-minute match.
Alcaraz leads Fritz 4-1 in their head-to-head series.
China Open
Jannik Sinner reached his third consecutive final in Beijing with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Australian Alex de Minaur.
Sinner, the top seed and World No. 2, saved 11 of 12 break points in his quest for his 21st tour title. It was the Italian's 11th win against de Minaur, the third seed, out of 11 career chances.
In the final, Sinner will meet Learner Tien, who advanced after Daniil Medvedev was forced to retire with an injury in the 5-7, 7-5, 4-0 match.
Tien was down a set and a break when he rallied from 3-5 down in the second set to force a third set. He went up 4-0 before the Russian couldn't proceed, seemingly due to cramping.
At 19, Tien becomes the second-youngest finalist in China Open history. Only Rafael Nadal was younger when he was a finalist in 2005. It is the first career final for Tien.
