(251007) -- BEIJING, Oct. 7, 2025 (Xinhua) -- This combo photo shows a photo exhibition themed on Switzerland's Jungfrau Mountain at Huangshan Mountain scenic area, east China's Anhui Province, on Aug. 28, 2025 (above, photo by Huang Rui), and a tourist taking a photo of an ice sculpture mascot set up to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Snake at Ice Palace at an altitude of 3,454 meters near "Jungfraujoch -- Top of Europe," the highest railway station in Europe, on Jungfrau Mountain, Switzerland, on Aug. 28, 2025 (below, photo by Xinhua photographer Lian Yi).
Located in east China's Anhui Province, Huangshan Mountain is famed for its five wonders: oddly shaped pines, rock formations, seas of clouds, hot springs and winter snow. Meanwhile, rising 4,158 meters above sea level, Jungfrau Mountain in the Swiss Alps is home to Europe's highest-altitude railway station "Jungfraujoch -- Top of Europe" at the altitude of 3,454 meters.
China's Huangshan Mountain and Switzerland's Jungfrau Mountain, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are deepening cooperation as the two countries mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.
The partnership began during the United Nations' "International Year of Mountains" in 2002, when the two sides signed the China Huangshan-Swiss Jungfrau Friendly Cooperation Agreement in Huangshan City, establishing a long-term mechanism for mountain-to-mountain and city-to-city cooperation. In the same year, the two peaks became "sister mountains." In 2008, Huangshan City and Interlaken, home to Jungfrau Mountain, established a sister-city partnership to enhance exchanges in tourism and culture.
In recent years, Huangshan has hosted Jungfrau photo exhibitions at popular scenic spots. Jungfrau, in turn, has created annual ice sculptures at its Ice Palace to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival and once featured a performance by Chinese pianist Lang Lang. The two sides hold regular visits and online dialogues to promote sustainable tourism and closer people-to-people ties. (Xinhua)
